You are invited to witness the re-lighting of the iconic St. Marks Lighthouse beacon after almost 20 years. It will be quite a historic event!
On July 12, for the first time since 2000, the St. Marks Lighthouse briefly flashed its beam out to sea once again. For now it's turned off awaiting the official re-lighting ceremony.
The event will occur on October 31, 2019 – a date that coincides with the 88th birthday of St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
Here's the Schedule:
5:30 pm - The festivities will begin with music, food, goodies from the Bluegoose and costumed interpreters. The Lighthouse will be open and there will be a sales booth with lighthouse related items.
6:30 pm – An official recognition ceremony to acknowledge many of the people and groups that made the lighthouse restoration possible.
7:00 pm – The light will officially be turned on.
Restoring the lighthouse has been a wonderful cooperative effort between the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and the Friends group. It has been a true partnership: the Refuge has managed restoration work and Friends has headed fundraising and increasing community awareness.
