SMNWR 12/13

Without putting any effort into finding passerines (and therefore finding few) Cyndi and I totaled a decent 78 species, including 20 species of waterfowl.

East River Pool - A blue phase Snow Goose was very close to the pier, but eventually walked out of site behind vegetation. The Am. Golden Plover continues, but appears ill. One Roseate Spoonbill, a dozen each Am. Avocets and Bonaparte's Gulls, Wilson's Snipe.

North end of Mounds 3 - Am. Flamingo, a single Whitr-faced Ibis, 17 Am. Avocets, and several species of ducks

Tower Pond - almost empty due to low tide, but two Am. Avocets (another two Avocets on south end of Picnic Pond)

South end of Mounds 3 - two sightings of a flying Am. Black Duck (maybe just one bird), Mallards, many N. Pintail, ten more Avocets, a Horned Grebe

Lighthouse Pool - Good variety of ducks including several Canvasback and Ruddy Ducks, Marbled Godwits, Black Skimmers.

Offshore - Two male C. Goldeneye, many C. Loons and Horned Grebes, Oystercatcher, all these from the gazebo; looking southeast from parking area a single female Black Scoter, many Red-br Mergs, and four distant flying Gannets (none adults)
