Carney Intern

Hello! My name is Domenique Price and I am from a very small town called Verbena, AL which is located in central Alabama. I have always known I would have a career in a field related to the environment and conservation. I inherited my love for nature from my mother, who was raised surrounded my wildlife of all sorts. Her father was part of a falconry club which kept the raptors at their homes. He also helped to rehab many other wildlife. As I grew up, I was filled with stories about my mother’s childhood and the various wildlife she came in contact with. Her stories engrained in me, a love and respect for our natural resources. I learned at a very young how important it was to be good stewards of the outdoors.

I am an alumni of Auburn University in the major of Wildlife Ecology and Management. During my time at Auburn University, I was exposed to a plethora of knowledge about the flora and fauna of the southeast as well as up-to-date research on management tactics, policies and conservation issues. We were also taught, in depth, about the longleaf pine ecosystem, the various endangered species found within it and how crucial it is to restore and preserve this unique habitat.

I am very fortunate to be chosen as an intern for St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and am so excited about the valued experience I will obtain while I am here. Within my first week, I have already played a role in the observation of Red-cockaded woodpeckers following the end of breeding season. Identifying individuals will be important to determine survival and dispersal rates of fledglings.

In my spare time, I enjoy creating new adventures by hiking and exploring, crafting handmade jewelry and outdoor photography. Nature is an unlimited inspiration and motivation for my creativity. I love to share my passion with others and continue to gain more inspiration as I learn and grow in the field of conservation. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to further my career and I am very excited for the coming months spent here.

Filled with gratitude, Domenique Price
